My husband, Scott, and I started the Trim Healthy Mama plan on Monday, February 17, 2014. I weighed 205 and was five weeks postpartum after baby number seven. Scott weighed 227 pounds. We were both unhappy with our weight and ready to make some changes. Our bodies hurt, we were tired all the time, we certainly didn’t love our squishy bellies. I had four babies in four short years (I have seven children total) and my body was a bit of a wreck. In between pregnancies I would cut back on calories, trying to stick to a mere 1400-1600 a day, constantly starving but never really seeing any weight loss. I would begin intense exercise programs – but my body was so sluggish and often in pain, I didn’t enjoy exercising at all. During my pregnancies I would give up and eat whatever the heck I wanted. And being the awesome supportive husband he is, Scott would join me. We both love food, and we really love making delicious dishes to share with each other. Our love sort of grew… in the form of spare tires. 

Finally, while I was pregnant with baby number seven a dear friend started her Trim Healthy Mama journey. I remember hearing she was changing her eating habits and her mom was joining her. I saw her at various get togethers and I could see she was losing weight. I thought it was neat and I was happy for her and her mother, but it didn’t click for me. And then she visited me in the hospital after I had little Gideon. I hadn’t seen her for a couple of months and I was blown away! She looked absolutely fantastic! I knew she hadn’t been on the Trim Healthy Mama plan for long, but she had reached her goal weight and was glowing with health and confidence. Right then and there I told myself I was going to do what she did. I wanted to glow like that. I wanted my husband to be healthy. A few weeks later I ordered my book and got started.

Our Trim Healthy Mama results have been nothing short of AMAZING.

Our first week eating the Trim Healthy Mama way was fabulous. I lost five pounds and Scott lost seven! We were so thrilled with such a good start we happily continued. Our Trim Healthy Mama results for the first month were great too: I lost 12 pounds and Scott lost 14 pounds – in just one month!  We weren’t even exercising yet. We were just changing our eating habits. It was amazing to watch our bodies shrink.

And after six months Scott has lost 41 pounds and I’ve lost 40! Did you catch that? We’ve lost a combined 80 pounds in half a year! Scott has gone from a size 38 pants to a size 34, and I’ve gone from a size 16 to a size 10! Scott is only five pounds away from his goal weight. I have about 15 I’d like to see gone forever – mostly around my saddle area πŸ˜‰ I have no doubt it will all be gone in another few months.

For years I hated having my picture taken. I’d see it, and then quickly look away… as if I had just seen some horrific crime or something. My brain would just say, “Nope! That’s not me! I’m not looking at that.” If someone had a camera out I would dart behind a child or a piece of furniture. When you’re overweight you learn how to tilt your head a certain way, avoid certain angles, artfully hide your body. All ways to hide the problem and never really deal with it. 

I’ve tried other diets. I tried South Beach, but it wasn’t a lifestyle I could maintain. It was too restrictive, and the rest of my family couldn’t eat the same way. I tried calorie counting, but I was constantly hungry and grouchy, exhausted and burnt out. Even when I thought I was eating healthy foods, I would make the wrong food combinations that would lead to more weight gain no matter how healthy my choices. And I would exercise. At one point a few years ago I was exercising for over an hour every day. It was such a battle, with very little results. 

And all the while I would be at total odds with myself because I love cooking. I love food! But it seemed like food and I didn’t belong together, like star-struck clandestine lovers. 

But thankfully Trim Healthy Mama brought me and food back together again in a beautiful way that nourished my body, gave me energy and strength, helped me lose weight, all while I enjoyed what was on my plate. And I don’t make a beeline to hide behind the nearest large object whenever someone takes a picture. It’s nice to just stand there and smile. 

Three months into our new Trim Healthy Mama lifestyle I started exercising, not because I had to – but finally because I could. My body didn’t hurt when I moved. I didn’t feel like I was slogging through a mud puddle with every step. I felt lighter, like my body was finally burning clean fuel. I started training (again) for my first 5k run. It’s been over a decade since I was able to run a mile, and here I am planning to run over three miles in just a couple of weeks! I feel like I can fly. My husband is running with me too. He looks fantastic! He’s faster than I am, but I certainly don’t mind the view if you know what I’m saying. *wink-wink*

    What an inspiration. hoping to try the THM lifestyle for myself. I am perplexed by the many ‘drink’ recipes. I just got all the ingredients to try ‘Good Girl Moonshine.”

      I haven’t started the plan yet, but I intend to. However, I have started drinking some of the drinks and variations on the theme others have suggested. I don’t really like the GGM because I’m not a fan of the ginger taste. However, I have a different version. I take a Forest Fruits tea bag, pour 2 cups of hot water over it in a mason jar. Leave it for 20-30 minutes to steep every last ounce of flavor out of it. Then I sometimes put it in the fridge for awhile to cool it off, but not necessary. Add the Stevia (I only use 1 doonk, because I like things tart) and the 2 TBS ACV, fill with ice and shake! It’s delicious! It reminds me of Hawaiian Punch’s Wild Berry Blast when I was a kid but w/o all the high fructose corn syrup and artificial flavors and colors.

    i can’t believe i’ll be able to eat french toast again!!!!!!!!! I’ve been budgeting for the book, i can’t wait to get it and learn all the yummy options that will be available to be again! I was trying a low cal diet for years and let it go when i got pregnant with my daughter. it never did any good but going crazy sure did hurt me horribly. I’ve been following a ketogenic (if i understand correctly, basically pure s meals) diet for about 18 mo and am down 75 lbs. but with a 2 year old and a husband that doesn’t like anything i’m cooking, it gets hard and very tempting every day. i’m looking forward to eating yogurt, cottage cheese, and some breads again! the drinks look awesome, and the deserts…. o my lord!

    I have been doing THM for six months as well… only lost about 20 lb., but as I’m 3 months pregnant, I’m quite satisfied with my loss so far! Unfortunately, I no longer have my book (I gave it to a friend in need), so I really need a new one! LOL I have made a similar “Loaded Cauliflower” recipe, but I’m gonna try yours to see which we like better (except I use fresh veggies… after I realized how much better they tasted than frozen, I just couldn’t make myself go back). I also want to try the Strawberry Cupcakes. I’ve had a hard time coming up with a cake substitute that my family likes (I like them, but ya know… =} ).

I was wondering, what do you ‘turn to’ for quick snacks? It seems my down-fall is when I get a major ‘gotta have something yummy NOW’ attack and then I fall off the wagon. Boo.

    I just found out about Trim Healthy Mama. It looks amazing. You can have anything you want (within reason of course). I can’t wait to try the desserts, BBQ pork, the Breakfast Burritos, and anything breakfast. It all looks so good. It also looks easy to make. I am not a cook, don’t like to cook, and would rather not cook, so these look like I can do this with minimal effort. Thank you very much for the opportunity to win a book like this.       Some of my older recipes on this site aren’t Trim Healthy Mama compliment. But, the ones that are really are yummy! πŸ™‚ and it’s very easy to tweak an old classic into a healthier dish.
